SAID’s story starts with the story of the de Mauro family. Everything began in Rome: it was 1923 and Aldo de Mauro decided to open his chocolate factory in the historic distric of San Lorenzo.
Because of the Facist Regime the company was first named as “Società Anonima Industria Dolci” (Anonimous Confectionery Company) – now known as SAID “Società Azionaria Industria Dolciumi” (Confectionery Stock Company).
During the time of the Second World War, SAID’s factory managed to keep its production alive, even though the bombing of 1943 had severely damaged its facility.
Once the war was over the factory’s facility was finally restored and SAID started growing. It was set to become a landmark of chocolate production in the heart of Rome.
